Colin's Mayday: Fighting Fire with Fire, Against Cancer.
Colin Needs Our Help.
Imagine a life dedicated to service, running towards danger when others flee. That's Colin Sperry. A 33-year-old firefighter, a husband, a brother in the brotherhood, and a pillar of our community. But life, as we know, can shift in an instant.
Colin, a man who spends his days battling flames, faces an unexpected inferno within. What began as a nagging feeling, dismissed as a stubborn cold, turned into a terrifying reality. "I felt like absolute dogshit," Colin shared, recalling the start of this year. His wife, sensing something more, urged him to the ER.
And thank God she did.
The diagnosis was swift and brutal: Diffuse Large B-Cell NH Lymphoma. A large mediastinal mass, not fluid, was revealed in his chest X-ray. Cancer. At 33.
"I did not have Cancer on my 2025 bingo card," Colin said, his words echoing the shock and disbelief that shattered his world.
Suddenly, Colin’s life was no longer about fighting fires, but fighting for his life. A whirlwind of scans, biopsies, and appointments ensued. The physical toll was immense, but the emotional burden was crushing. "Two weeks of anxiety, depression, and my body only letting me sleep enough to keep me alive," he recounted.
Now, Colin faces six months of intensive chemotherapy, a grueling battle that will keep him away from the firehouse and the brothers he loves. The financial strain is a looming shadow, adding to the already overwhelming stress.
This is where YOU step in.
The Yard Foundation is more than just a non-profit; we are a lifeline for firefighters and their families facing unexpected crises. We are the community that rallies when the alarm sounds, not on the fireground, but in the heart of one of our own.
Colin’s story is a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the strength of the human spirit. His courage in the face of adversity is an inspiration to us all. But he can't fight this battle alone.
We are launching Colin’s Mayday Campaign to ensure he can focus on healing, not on bills.
Your generous donation will provide:
Financial assistance to cover medical expenses and lost wages.
Emotional support to Colin and his family during this challenging time.
A tangible reminder that he is not alone in this fight.
"Luckily I work at the best house in the city and my guys have been taking care of me since we found out. I love you guys a lot. I’ll be back soon," Colin said. His words speak to the unwavering support of his firehouse family, and now, we are asking you to join that family.
Every dollar counts. Every act of kindness makes a difference. Let's show Colin that his community is standing shoulder to shoulder with him, ready to extinguish the flames of cancer and support him on his road to recovery.
Please, donate today. Be the light in Colin's darkest hour. Be the strength that lifts him up.
