Last week, Larry 'Dink' Voigt of IAFF 4093 in Ohio faced a terrifying fall from a ladder while on shift. Landing square on his heels, Dink suffered fractures in both calcaneus bones, considered one of the most painful breaks. Despite the emergency surgery and the array of screws and plates now in his feet, Dink faces a long road to recovery, potentially a year or more until full healing is within reach.

Facing the Challenges Ahead:

Dink's positivity shines through, but the reality remains daunting. He will need to relearn how to walk and balance due to the loss of lateral rotation in his feet. As the sole provider for his wife and two young children, there's a lingering worry about his future in the fire service and his ability to support his family.
